Yukon Ho!! Traveling Toward Maturity in Christ

“Danger Ahead” is the overall message of the Yukon, Ho!! curriculum, a danger surmounted only by Christ. When children enter the teen years, they face issues that threaten their Christian values. Those challenges require decisions that can affect the rest of their lives. How will they respond to issues of sex, drugs, pornography, dating, peer pressure, etc.? What choices will they make? How will they prepare for the dangers ahead?

The Yukon, Ho!! curriculum, which we are piloting this fall at the North campus - 9 and 11 AM and 5 PM - provides a stage for students to make these life decisions based on scriptural principles and to think through situations before they encounter them. The full year course revolves around adolescent issues. Through a Pilgrim’s Progress type format, concerns of young adulthood will be presented. Each “trap” will be given a 1 to 4 week span, emphasized by skits, role-playing, games, and discussions. Scriptural foundations for decisions, a relationship with Christ, and the importance of guides – the Holy Spirit, parents, and Christian mentors – will be emphasized throughout. The class will be fast paced to keep the students engaged and having fun, while learning.

Our main goal for this year is to present the issues (traps as we will call them) of adolescence to the sixth graders. In our desire to support, equip, and work alongside parents, we’ll be providing handouts to help parents continue this course at home and open discussion with their kids. Many parents don’t think about the issues that will confront their children until they face a problem in one of these areas. It needs to be talked about and Biblical standards discussed before the kids ever get involved in these issues or traps. Parental involvement in their children’s lives is crucial. We want to help you grow together as a family and we’re here to help in whatever way we can.
