What prepares people to understand and experience the gospel, or good news, of Jesus? In order to truly appreciate or understand the need for the gospel, we have to realize our need for it. The book of Mark begins with the forerunner of Christ, John the Baptist, preaching a message of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. The “good news” actually begins with the bad news of our realization and confession of sin in our lives. Some of us may need to confess a life of sin and turn to Jesus for the first time while others may need to confess sin in our lives and be restored to fellowship with Christ. Humility is the key. But once we humble ourselves and turn from our sin, we are ready to experience fully what the good news of Jesus is all about.
