Worship and Creation

Posted January 26 by Viv Donat

Participating in kids worship is one of many highlights for me as a volunteer. As we gathered in large group two weeks ago with kinders through fourth graders, kids sang it out to “Happy Day” by Tim Hughes, and it was an over-the-top moment I will never forget. Our room was filled with little ones singing:

The greatest day in history
Death is beaten, You have rescued me
Sing it out, Jesus is alive

The empty cross, the empty grave
Life eternal, You have won the day
Shout it out, Jesus is alive
He's alive

Oh, happy day, happy day
You washed my sin away
Oh, happy day, happy day
I'll never be the same
Forever I am changed

When I stand in that place
Free at last, meeting face to face
I am yours, Jesus, You are mine

Endless joy, perfect peace
Earthly pain finally will cease
Celebrate, Jesus is alive
He's alive[1]

That night of singing was a big “Wow!” moment for me and many other volunteers and staff because these kids were praising Jesus with pure, undefiled joy. It was amazing!

My husband and I have had the privilege of working in kids ministry every other week for almost a year as first/second grade volunteers during Midweek. As I look back at all those who poured into my life at church, it reminds me that it was then, at 8 years old, that I gave my life to Jesus. For many reasons, I am grateful to get to serve with so many other volunteers in this ministry, and my dad’s testimony is one of these reasons.

When I was a little girl, my dad shared with me that he didn't always believe in God. It was through his study of cells and life that he turned from atheism to believing in the Creator of life, Jesus. He stood strong in his beliefs as a college biology professor, in which he taught creation along with his required curriculum.

The Bible uses God’s creation in relation to our lives over and over in HIs Word. When able, we love to share that with the kids during teaching time. My prayer is that the children will meet the Creator of all life and that they too would desire for Jesus to be their Lord and Savior.

If you have time, come and watch your kids worship, or if you just want to join us for any part of our time together, I promise you will be blessed. Forever I am changed, oh happy day!
