Recap:: Sunnyside High School students go to winter camp

February 04 By: Dave Obwald

This past weekend WSM (Well Student Ministries) went to winter camp! The WSM team, at the SE campus, has been praying for a chance to build relationships with students from Sunnyside and other schools in the area. Well, here is a story written by one of our high school leaders, Sarah, who accompanied five Sunnyside High School girls to winter camp. All five girls are a part of the Hope Rises club, at Sunnyside HS, who we have partnered with in the past and before this weekend Sarah had not met any of them.

Sarah Says::

Camp was awesome! I am SO exhausted but it was definitely worth it. The girls were incredible and I had so much fun getting to know them. They're a really solid group of girls. They had a ton of fun and took lots of pictures. One of them had never been to the snow before so it was fun to experience that with her.

We had some really great talks during cabin time. Since the theme for the week was "Connect For", we were able to talk about tangible ways that we can get connected with God. It was so refreshing to be able to talk through all of this with a group of girls who are actively seeking God and exploring what being connected to Him looks like. After one of the evening programs, all the leaders were asked to stand in the back and spend time in prayer with students that wanted it. To be completely honest, I felt a little uncomfortable at first because I have never done anything like that before. But, I made my way to the back and just started praying for the girls. Towards the end of the songs, one of them got up and walked towards me. With tears streaming down her face, she asked me how to balance school and staying connected to God. We got to talk through that a little and prayed together. I honestly think that she just needed someone to encourage her and tell her that God was taking care of her.

The weekend was great and I feel so blessed to have been a part of it.
