This moderate hike of 3.6 miles (7.2 miles round trip) is a great introduction to winter hiking. The hike is open to all ages. Families, new hikers and outdoor enthusiasts are all welcome, with the understanding that snowshoeing in higher altitudes can be exerting and strenuous even for experienced hikers.
The route goes from Badger Pass to Dewey Point on the south rim of Yosemite Valley and provides incredible views of El Capitan, Cloud's Rest and Half Dome. For those who find the trek too difficult, there is a beautiful meadow at the halfway point, which is worth the journey by itself. Anyone can easily follow the trail back to Badger Pass from this point, where the ski lodge offers a warm place to rest and enjoy hot food while waiting for the rest of the group to return.
It is a 2 ½-hour drive from Fresno. The roads are consistently plowed, but we will need additional drivers. Carpooling will be coordinated, and we will split the cost of gas and park entrance fees. Note that The Well does not have a security patrol and is not liable for damages to cars left in our parking lot.
Winter ventures can be sensitive to weather changes, so we will contact everyone consistently with updates, and will cancel the trip in the event that foul weather is forecasted shortly beforehand.
A detailed itinerary, recommended gear/supplies, and a list of places to rent snowshoes will be emailed to everyone who signs up.
