Breakout Session #2 Options:

Pathway to Change: the Self-Determination Program

There are many roads to take in providing services for self-advocates of all ages with the support of their loved ones. SDP is a freeway providing choice in hiring staff, choosing services, and attaining the achievement goals for a meaningful life. Michelle Smith and Dawn Purdy have supported many individuals with the SDP entry process. We can provide a roadmap to successful on-boarding into the program.

Behaviors and Trauma in Special Needs

There is a focus on "why" children who come from hard places or have special needs experience a more difficult time with regulation, and specific strategies that parents and caregivers can utilize in order to help them support children with regulation (the "what to do" component). This training will provide information on how the brain works, how the body works, and ways in which an adult's regulation impacts a child's regulation, and also focuses on the importance of relationship when it comes to regulation.

Theology of Disability

How should we think about disability and suffering theologically? As a person personally affected by disability or as someone who is caring for others, consider that who God is has meaning for how we care for others and how we can find a deeper and richer meaning in relationships as persons who experience disability, ours and others. Join Quentin Kinnison to learn more!
