Morally Discerning / Culturally Engaged (Blue)
This panel references Jesus loving the Samaritan woman. A woman who was a cultural outcast & judged by the Jews; drawing her water from the well/cistern during the heat of the day. The panel depicts the outcome after the interaction with Jesus. The sun is still high in the sky and two water vessels representing the popularity and usage of the well but no one is around at this time. The water vessel on its side was the Samaritan woman's. The woman brought the vessel with the intention to hold reserved stagnant water but it's now pouring, flowing, abundant living water. Water was a commodity and having the vessel on it's side represents Jesus' intentions with the Samaritan woman was greater than the cultural implications or her thirst for today. More water than the vessel could realistically hold is pouring out onto the lower half of the panel. "Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water."
