The Smallest Gift

To most people who are raising $3,000 for an Exposure Trip, a $12 donation is less than exciting – especially when you’re already fully funded. But for me, this gift was an enormous blessing that served as a reminder of why I do everything that I do.

I have been volunteering with Kids Co at The Well for about three years and have been teaching the 3rd/4th grade class for nearly two years. For those who are not familiar with the Kids Co. curriculum, it is a simplified version of The Anatomy of a Disciple, in which children learn to be an authentic disciple of Jesus. Material focuses on Trusting Jesus (Preschool and Kindergarten), Following God’s Word (1st and 2nd Grade), and Living, Giving and Loving like Jesus (3rd and 4th Grade).

Imagine how touched I was when I received an envelope with $12 enclosed, and a note from one of my 4th graders telling me that she would be praying for me on my trip to Thailand with The Well this December! When I saw her at church the following day, I gave her a giant hug and thanked her for her donation and prayer. She and her dad explained to me that as a family, they all sat down and talked about how each of them could – and wanted to – give of the money they had been saving. And in turn, my 4th grader emptied her piggy bank and decided to use it to support my trip.

I am beyond blessed knowing that I have an amazing group of friends and family who will be praying for me and my team on our journey to Thailand this month, but I think I am even more excited knowing that one of those friends is a 10-year-old girl that I have watched grow in her faith these last two years and who has truly grasped the concept of giving, living and loving like Jesus.
