We made it to Uganda safely and reached our destination at the Sole Hope Guest House! We are so excited and thankful to stay here and serve with Sole Hope! In honor of this being my first missions trip, first time traveling internationally, and first time flying, the team picked me to write the first blog post explaining our experiences of the past few days! After 55 hours of travel, 23 on plane alone, we reached our final destination with just a few hiccups on the way.
We had a fantastic time checking in at the airport when our kiosk shut down three times. We had a couple small flight delays, a gecko in our room, and a broken down van in the heart of the capital, Kampala. Yes I did say gecko. Again, this being my first time traveling like this, I don't normally see geckos prancing around on my walls. You guessed it, I screamed a little.
And what about that broken down van you ask? Oh that van. It broke down a couple times and made a 3-5 hour drive a 7 hour drive to get to Jinja. But I did see something you would very rarely see happen on the side of the road in the states. It was so encouraging to see the amount of help our driver, Paul, received as we were stranded on the side of the road. There were about 7 Ugandan men who pulled over to offer help. And they did not just offer to call AAA or call a tow truck. They worked together to fix the van and it didn't take 5 or 10 minutes. I was so encouraged and thankful for that experience. The Collie family is very welcoming and their home is beautiful. I hope that we as a team, like the men who offered our driver help, work together to serve God as we serve alongside the Collie family and Sole Hope!
