Final WordsThe 7 Statements Jesus Makes on The Cross

Passion Week: Final Words-7 Sayings of Jesus on the Cross - Friday - Day 7

March 26, 2021
Anna
Luke 23:46

I hope that this week of slowing down the last moments and words of Jesus has been fruitful for you. Each phrase that he spoke as he endured this painful death was so full of intention and of his love. The final words that Jesus proclaimed are no different. Having just given his Earthly goodbye with, “It is finished,” Jesus turns his eyes and his heart to the very one who sent him. “Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit.” This precious prayer of surrender is cried out with every last ounce of energy Jesus’ body could muster. This prayer is simple, but is filled with much hope for believers.

Rad Passage: “Father, into Thy hands I commit My spirit.” — Luke 23:46

Reflection Questions:

1. Read 1 Peter 2:23 and John 10:17-18. How do these verses shed light on these final words of Jesus?

2.What sin do you need to surrender at the cross today? Is there anything that you feel like you are incapable of putting to death on your own? Pray now to your Father, commit your spirit into his hands, and ask him to do that very work in you. Walk in hope.

Prayer:

Father, I praise you for making a way for me to be free from sin and death. Thank you for the work that was completed on the cross, on my behalf. A work that I never could have done for myself. Lord, I need you to continue to conquer sin in my life. Please reveal to me anything that I need to surrender to you today. Help me to place it at the cross, into your hands once and for all. Empower me, by your Spirit, to walk in the hope that I have been given through Jesus Christ. In His precious name I pray this, Amen.
