Last week, Peter opened his discussion of submission by addressing our responsibility to human institutions and masters. We noted that submission is willingly placing yourself under someone else's leadership. It is not subjugation, nor is it weakness. Biblical submission is about meekness, or strength under control, shown clearly to us in the example of Christ.

This week, Peter addresses the issue of submission within marriage. Take a deep breath. I know this can be a scary topic for women, and one that is often taught without nuance or context. If you have never studied these passages in the context of the rest of Peter's letter, I think you will find freedom in doing so. We will give the text our full attention in the interest of banishing cultural ideas and embracing biblical ones.
