The team finalized the men’s conference on Saturday after spending several days diving into God's Word and encouraging the men in their walk with the Lord. So much of our mission has been preparing for these last three days, and many of the days the guys would come into the mission house in the evening having left it all on the field.
On the last day of our time together, as a send off and a tangible expression of their love and gratitude, Pastor Mele rallied the men to surround us as we as a team huddled in the center. Now you have to understand, Pastor Mele has energy and charisma that at his age puts all of us to shame. The men gathered around us and with so much volume began to sing “How Great Thou Art” in Creole. Pastor Mele with equal voice began to pray for us with great energy. We could not understand anything he prayed, but the forcefulness of his prayer said it all. Each of the men on our team then embraced all the Haitian men fighting back emotion as our time together came to a conclusion.
This moment of our journey will easily be a remembrance that will stay with us for a lifetime. Our assumption as we set out on this mission is that we would be the ones serving and loving others, impacting them for Christ and His Kingdom. We as a team have now realized that God not only is using us to encourage His Church, but is also indeed shaping us in the process, and we will return to the States having been changed by Him as well.
