Hi! My name is Bekah Martinez, I'm 18 and the youngest member of the Costa Rica team. This is my second time visiting Costa Rica, and my first international mission trip. The past few weeks leading up to the trip I felt neutral about the whole thing; not too excited, yet not anxious either. I dreaded leaving my family and friends for two whole weeks, but knew I would appreciate the overall experience.
Today is our first day here in Desamparados, and so far...it has exceeded all expectations. Even though we've barely been here, I've felt God's peace. He has given me rest, joy, and a lot of much-needed enthusiasm! One of the things I was most apprehensive about was the language barrier between myself and my host family. However, the moment I met my host mother, we clicked immediately despite the fact that we speak two different languages. She's an adorable little grandmother who reminds me of my abuelita back home. Her patience has been a huge blessing, not to mention her cooking is superb. All that aside, I can't wait to see what God is going to do in the lives of us and the people here. My anxiety is gone, and in its place is nothing but peace. My hope for this trip is that I will not only teach others, but have lessons taught to me. My prayer is that my heart will open for the Lord to work in and through me. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers over the next two weeks.
Adios!
