Here's a bit of trivia for you...what is the number one product exported from Costa Rica? You're probably thinking coffee, bananas, and pineapple. It's actually computer components, such as microchips. In our orientation today at the Students International office, we learned some interesting facts about Costa Rica. In Costa Rican culture, people always wear shoes in the house. It is considered rude to remove your shoes (except for bed, of course). Costa Rica is 85% Catholic and 13% Protestant. Costa Rica has no army--just "policia". The population is around 4.5 million. Soccer is the main sport here. We watched the news last night and all the sports coverage was about soccer.

Micah (my husband) and I are staying with a wonderful woman named Dora. She has five grown children and eleven grandchildren. She loves to cook and we've enjoyed her meals of "gallo pinto" (rice and beans) and "pan" (bread.) We are doing our best to communicate in Spanish. She talks slowly and simply, so we are able to understand quite a bit. It is more difficult to put the little Spanish we know into complete sentences.

Thank you for praying for us! Tomorrow we start our ministry sites. I am working at the tutoring center and Micah is doing sports ministry. I am looking forward to partnering with Students International in God's work here!
