Today we left the luxurious urban house in Quito for our new temporary home in the rain forest village of Misahualli. The bus soared up into the green covered Andes Mountains in the rain and puddles at a rate that made us nervous at first. I assured myself that the bus driver was a pro and made the trip regularly. Our village hostel is a gem in the jungle, with delicious seafood and a welcoming atmosphere. After seeing monkeys playing in the town square, we took a hike to a small community right on the river that shared their rich Quechua heritage with us. We joined in a performance of a tribal dance to the beat of drums and singing just as their ancestors used to do many years ago. Our local missionary partner Roberto shared his testimony with us tonight and has energized us to meet and love the children he has been serving. We will remember James’ words that we memorized on the bus ride here:
“But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.” – James 3:17-18
