The Man of the Trip

This trip has been an all-around mystery. A friend asked me a month or so before the trip, “Why are you going?” I tried to come up with a Sunday school answer to be the truth, and he called me out on it. I realized I had no idea how to answer that question.

I signed up for a two-week trip with eight women and no other males. What is logical about that?

I boarded a plane not knowing why God even wanted me to go on this trip. I went through the first week still not knowing why I had traveled across the globe to Africa to help some missionaries. It was not until a couple days ago that I realized God is using this trip to point out stuff in my life that needs to change.

I never really understood what it meant to acknowledge God as my sole and only sustenance. I never recognized that He is the one who gives me the strength to get through the day. For one of our morning devotionals, we went through the passage about how Christ is the bread of life. During the discussion of this topic, I realized why I was here. God is the real man of this trip, not me, as much as I may think.

Africa has been a new experience, but I have thoroughly enjoyed it so far. As the trip winds down, I know what needs to change. I just need to figure out how. I think God can show me that, and I am excited to learn more.
