Beginning in January we have some important changes coming to Surge at our North Campus. Most notably, starting January 17 we will begin meeting on Wednesday nights from 6:30-8:30pm. Extending our time by 30 minutes to allow us adequate time for connection, worship, teaching, recreation, and life group.
Also there will no longer be a 5th-8th grade option on Sunday's. That time will focus solely on 5th and 6th grade. We would love for our 7th and 8th graders to either get involved serving in a ministry on Sunday's or join their family in the main gathering.
Chris Schultz, our Campus Support Director explains the reasons and the heart behind the change in a letter below.
Dear Surge Parents,
Like many of you, I am so grateful as a parent to partner with The Well in the investment and discipleship of my children. My daughters have benefited by the weekly Wednesday gatherings that have allowed them to understand the Gospel, hear God's word, and connect to others in life groups. Our staff team and our lay volunteers have done a fantastic job of pouring into these students and we believe that this will bear fruit in their lives for years to come.
When we launched our WSM Wednesdays back in the fall of 2016, we had no idea that the Lord would allow us to influence so many students. To see the tremendous growth that has regularly reached 300+ at our North campus has been incredible. It you can also imagine, it has caused some considerable challenges for us behind the scenes. Trying to run three distinct programs (516, JH, HS) in a limited facility space (recreation space, sanctuary, life group rooms) has worked but our staff team is trying to pull off a magic trick every week that doesn't fully allow us to operate in the ways we would like to.
For the past year, we have been wrestling with how to keep the energy and momentum going on Wednesdays but knowing that the pace is not sustainable for our facility or staff team. It has caused us to pray, discuss and see if we had any alternatives tha we could implement for the future. After many conversations, we believe some changes need to be made and we are going to move forward with a new format in 2018.
Starting on January 17, we are going to NO LONGER have a 516 program available on Wednesdays and will provide programming options only for Junior High and High School that will meet from 6:30-8:30PM. This will alleviate the facility/space issue by only having to run two programs instead of three and give us extra time for life groups. Also, there will no longer be a 5th-8th grade option at the Sunday gatherings but focus solely on 5th and 6th graders.
Please know that that decisions are always difficult to make but we believe they are necessary to make. We are praying and exploring options to enlarge our footprint as a campus so that we might be able to have all three of our youth groups back together on one campus on one night. In the meanwhile, we will move forward with trust that God will continue to reach the hearts of young people and stir their affections for Christ. We want to partner with you as parents in the coming weeks as we make this transition and are happy to have any conversations with you that would answer any questions you might have. Please feel free to contact myself or Student Director Nic Ferguson (email@example.com
) and we'll do our best to respond quickly.
Please feel free to reach out to Chris or Keegan with any questions you may have.
