How do the people of God live distinctly in a corrupt culture? The end of the book of Malachi draws eerie parallels to the moral temperature of our day. As the corruption of the priesthood led to the demise of the spiritual lives of the people, the evidence of their moral decay became apparent in how they lived. With the rejection of the worship of God alone, they began to think and reason their way through life. Their spiritual collapse caused them to embrace sin in excess. Malachi finished his words with a hard reminder for the people to remember the word of God. Their future would not be found in the progress of culture, but in the recapturing of a "simplicity and purity of devotion to the Lord."
