The Messianic Psalms are where we find a direct reference to the Messiah and can find the fulfillment of the passage in the New Testament. They refer to the Messiah Christ and many aspects of His character. The plan of salvation is also revealed in the poetry of these psalms. Luke 24:44 states in the words of Christ Himself: “Then he said to them, 'These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.'”

It is important to note that the writers of these psalms were first writing about their own situation from the depths of their hearts, but because they were divinely inspired, we can readily tell the reference to Christ the Messiah.

This week we will look at five psalms with New Testament fulfillment:

  • Psalms 2: Surrender – Surrender to the Anointed One
  • Psalms 22: Suffering – Suffering of the Messiah Christ
  • Psalms 23: Shepherd – The Lord is My Shepherd
  • Psalms 24: Savior – My Savior, the King of Glory
  • Psalms 102: Security – Security in the unchangeable and sovereign Lord
