When David took power after being anointed king, he recalled the covenant he had made with his late best friend Jonathan, and asked if there was anyone in Jonathan’s family that he may subsequently bless with what God had provided. He was told of Jonathan’s son, Mephibosheth, who had become lame after an accident, and David took him in and adopted him as his own son. Recognizing what a privilege it was to be adopted into the family of the king, Mephibosheth was overwhelmed by the grace that had been shown to him, and he put his relationship with David over all the stuff that came with it. May we also recognize the great privilege we have been given of a relationship with Jesus Christ, knowing even all the eternal blessings of heaven mean nothing if we aren’t there with Him.
